The 2020 Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore DOC ranks among the very best in the Italian wine world. Tenuta Ornellaia is considered one of the pioneers of the Super Tuscan movement and has been producing wines that perfectly combine power, elegance, and finesse for decades. The 2020 vintage is characterized by an exceptional balance between ripe fruit, freshness, and structure.
The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, sourced from carefully selected plots around Bolgheri. After a long aging period in French oak barriques, the result is a wine with impressive complexity, refined tannins, and an exceptionally long finish. The 2020 vintage has everything it takes to continue evolving for decades to come.
The wine opens with aromas of cassis, black cherries, plums, violets, graphite, cedarwood, dark chocolate, Mediterranean herbs, and delicate spices. On the palate, it is powerful and elegant, with velvety tannins, lively acidity, and an exceptionally long, mineral finish.
Serve at 16–18°C and decant the wine about two hours in advance. Delicious with grilled beef, lamb, game, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses.
The 2020 Ornellaia has an aging potential of thirty to forty years.
