2015 Niepoort Batuta: Elegance from Old Douro Vineyards
The Niepoort Batuta 2015 is a refined red wine from the Douro region that beautifully combines power and elegance. Batuta is not produced every year and is made from carefully selected old vineyards, including vines that are over 70 years old.
The long maceration and aging in French oak barrels give the wine structure and depth without overpowering its fresh, mineral character.
In the Douro, where old vines take deep root in steep slopes, Niepoort’s Batuta seeks balance rather than sheer power. The 2015 combines dark fruit with spicy nuances, refined tannins, and a fresh vibrancy that invites you to savor it slowly. Serve it with a special dinner, give it time in the glass, and discover how its various layers unfold.

Old vineyards and extended aging
Batuta 2015 is made from traditional Douro grape varieties, including Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Rufete, and Malvasia Preta. The grapes come from old vineyards and were rigorously selected. The wine aged for approximately 22 months in French oak barrels, only a limited portion of which were new.
Serving and Pairing
Serve at around 16–18°C. Batuta is exceptionally versatile at the table and pairs excellently with red meat, lamb, and game, as well as with hearty fish dishes such as monkfish or grilled octopus.
A special Douro from Niepoort
Batuta embodies an elegant side of the Douro: not excessive power, but finesse, freshness, minerality, and structure. The combination of old vines and a restrained use of new oak makes this an interesting bottle for both enthusiasts and collectors.
