2001 Château Rieussec: Premier Cru Classé Sauternes
The 2001 Château Rieussec is a prestigious sweet Bordeaux from Sauternes. The château was classified as a Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 classification and has been one of the appellation’s leading producers for generations.
The 2001 vintage enjoys an exceptionally strong reputation in Sauternes. Thanks to the development of noble rot, highly concentrated grapes were harvested while retaining sufficient freshness. After more than two decades of bottle aging, this wine displays a beautiful combination of ripe fruit, honeyed notes, spices, and tertiary aromas.
Aroma & taste
Complex aromas of apricot, candied citrus, dried fruit, honey, orange zest, vanilla, saffron, and subtle spices. On the palate, the wine is rich and concentrated, with a lovely, fresh structure that balances the sweetness. The finish is long, layered, and elegant.
Serving & foodpairing
Serve at around 10–12°C. Excellent with foie gras, blue cheese, refined desserts featuring apricot or citrus, and dishes with a sweet-savory contrast. A mature Sauternes of this caliber is also excellent when served on its own.
The story behind the bottle
