1983 Château Doisy-Védrines from Sauternes
Sauternes aged for more than four decades
The 1983 Château Doisy-Védrines offers a unique opportunity to discover a classic Sauternes with more than four decades of bottle aging. Château Doisy-Védrines is located in Barsac and was classified as a Deuxième Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification.
Thanks to its long bottle aging, this wine has evolved from primary fruit aromas to the complex, ripe notes characteristic of aged Sauternes. Expect a much more layered and developed character than in young Sauternes, with dried fruit, honey, candied citrus, and spicy notes taking center stage.
Aroma & taste
In a well-preserved bottle, aromas of dried apricot, candied orange, honey, caramel, saffron, nuts, and delicate spices may emerge. The extended bottle aging results in a complex and well-developed flavor profile with a smooth, lingering finish.
Serving & foodpairing
Serve at around 10–12°C. Due to its age, it is recommended to handle it with care. Stand the bottle upright beforehand to allow any sediment to settle, and pour carefully. It pairs beautifully with foie gras, blue cheese, and refined desserts, but as an aged Sauternes, it is especially worth discovering on its own.
Storage potential
This wine has now been aged in the bottle for more than 40 years. Further aging is possible if the bottle is in good condition and stored under optimal conditions, but with a wine of this age, the condition of the individual bottle is more important than any general theoretical aging potential.
Drinking Window
Drink now or store carefully for later. Due to its age, the flavor may vary from bottle to bottle.
Why We Chose This Wine
A 1983 Sauternes offers something a young wine simply cannot match: more than four decades of natural aging in the bottle. Château Doisy-Védrines also combines a historic classification with the character of a classic Barsac, making it an interesting choice for lovers of old Bordeaux wines.
The story behind the bottle
Château Doisy-Védrines is located in Barsac, within the Sauternes region. The château was classified as a Deuxième Cru Classé in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. The sweet wines are traditionally dominated by Sémillon, complemented by Sauvignon Blanc and a smaller proportion of Muscadelle.
