Generally Recognized Vintage Port Vintages
A generally declared year is a harvest year in which several major port houses decide to release a classic Vintage Port. Such declarations follow an assessment of the quality and aging potential of the young wines. This is a common term within the port world, not an official collective classification.
WHAT IS A GENERAL DECLARATION?
• Several port authorities report the same harvest year.
• Each house decides independently which wine to release as a Vintage Port.
• The style and quality vary by producer, vineyard, and vintage.
Well-known years for which a vintage declaration was issued include 1994, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2016, and 2017. A general vintage declaration does not guarantee that every producer released a Vintage Port in that year.
