Selectively Declared Vintage Port Vintages
Not every vintage in which a port house releases a Vintage Port is widely declared. Sometimes, a single producer or a limited number of houses choose to bottle the wine from a particular year as a Vintage Port. This is often referred to as a selective declaration.
WHAT DOES A SELECTIVE DECLARATION MEAN?
• The decision is made by the individual port house.
• The harvest year does not need to have been reported by many other producers.
• A Vintage Port from a selectively declared vintage is not automatically inferior to a wine from a broadly declared vintage.
Quinta do Noval is known for its unique classification policy, which focuses on the quality of each individual harvest. Other producers also release a Vintage Port in specific years without a broad classification. A Single Quinta Vintage Port, however, is not necessarily selectively classified: these are two different concepts.
