2016 Viña Leizaola El Sacramento from Rioja DOCa

An iconic single-vineyard wine from Rioja Alavesa

The 2016 Viña Leizaola El Sacramento comes from a historic vineyard in Rioja Alavesa and is among the region’s most refined terroir wines. Old vines, limestone-rich soils, and meticulous winemaking result in a wine of impressive elegance, concentration, and depth. The exceptional 2016 vintage produced perfectly ripe grapes with a harmonious balance of fruit, freshness, and structure.

After aging in French oak barrels, the wine develops complex aromatic layers, refined tannins, and a long, mineral finish. Thanks to the combination of terroir, craftsmanship, and an excellent vintage, this wine ranks among the finest modern Riojas.

Aroma & taste

The wine opens with aromas of black cherries, cassis, red plums, violets, cedar, tobacco, cocoa, Mediterranean herbs, and delicate spices. On the palate, it is powerful and elegant, with silky-smooth tannins, lively acidity, and a long, mineral finish.

Serving & foodpairing

Serve at 16–18°C and decant the wine about one hour in advance. Delicious with grilled beef, lamb, game, Iberian pork, mushrooms, and aged Manchego.

Storage potential

The 2016 Viña Leizaola El Sacramento has an aging potential of twenty-five years or more.
