The 2016 Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Guado al Tasso Matarocchio Bolgheri Superiore DOC Magnum (1.5L) ranks among the very best in the international wine world. Matarocchio is Tenuta Guado al Tasso’s most exclusive wine and is produced only in exceptional vintages. Sourced from a small plot in Bolgheri and made almost entirely from Cabernet Franc, this wine represents the highest level of quality and craftsmanship from Marchesi Antinori.
The legendary 2016 vintage is considered one of the greatest harvests ever in Bolgheri. Perfect weather conditions produced grapes with exceptional aromatic intensity, refined structure, and impressive freshness. The Magnum bottle also allows for a slower and more harmonious aging process, enabling the wine to develop even greater complexity and elegance.
The nose is intense and layered, with aromas of cassis, black currants, violets, graphite, cedarwood, cigar box, dark chocolate, Mediterranean herbs, and balsamic vinegar. On the palate, the wine is powerful yet exceptionally refined, with velvety tannins, impressive minerality, and an endless, elegant finish.
A 1.5-liter Magnum provides optimal conditions for slow and steady aging. As a result, the wine retains its freshness longer and develops additional complexity. Magnum bottles are also among the most sought-after sizes among collectors and wine enthusiasts.
Serve at 17–18°C and decant the wine at least two to three hours in advance. Perfect with wagyu, Florentine bistecca, lamb, game dishes, truffle dishes, and premium aged cheeses.
Matarocchio is not produced every year. Antinori selects Cabernet Franc from a specific vineyard block at Tenuta Guado al Tasso, in the heart of Bolgheri. While the region became known primarily for blends of various Bordeaux grape varieties, Matarocchio demonstrates how a single grape variety can develop its own distinct identity. The 2016 magnum adds a special format to the mix. When stored properly, a 1.5-liter bottle can develop more gradually than a standard bottle, making this rare wine even more interesting to open later.
