The 2016 Marchesi Antinori Tenuta Guado al Tasso Matarocchio Bolgheri Superiore DOC ranks among the absolute elite of the international wine world. Matarocchio is Tenuta Guado al Tasso’s most prestigious wine and is produced exclusively in exceptional vintages. Sourced from a small plot in Bolgheri and made almost entirely from Cabernet Franc, this wine represents the highest level of quality and craftsmanship from Marchesi Antinori. The original case containing three bottles makes this edition particularly appealing to collectors and wine enthusiasts.
The legendary 2016 vintage is considered one of the greatest harvests ever in Bolgheri. Thanks to perfect weather conditions, the grapes developed exceptional aromatic intensity, refined structure, and impressive freshness. This results in a wine with tremendous depth, perfect balance, and an exceptionally long aging potential.
The nose is intense and layered, with aromas of cassis, black currants, violets, graphite, cedarwood, cigar box, dark chocolate, Mediterranean herbs, and balsamic vinegar. On the palate, it is powerful yet exceptionally refined, with silky-smooth tannins, impressive minerality, and an endlessly elegant finish.
The original wooden case containing three bottles is highly sought after by collectors. It provides optimal protection during storage and enhances the collectible value of this extremely rare wine.
Serve at 17–18°C and decant the wine at least two to three hours in advance. Perfect with wagyu, Florentine bistecca, lamb, game dishes, truffle dishes, and premium aged cheeses.
Matarocchio stands out from the better-known Bordeaux blends from Bolgheri: the wine is made from Cabernet Franc grown on a specific plot at Tenuta Guado al Tasso. It is not produced every vintage. This makes the wine exceptional in a region where its reputation was built precisely on the blending of different grape varieties. The original wooden case contains three bottles from the same 2016 vintage. This allows a wine enthusiast to track the wine’s evolution at different stages without having to open the only bottle in their collection each time.
