The 2016 Marchesi Antinori Pian delle Vigne Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 5L ranks among the very best in the Italian wine world. Hailing from the prestigious Pian delle Vigne estate, owned by Marchesi Antinori, this wine reflects the purity of 100% Sangiovese and the unique terroir of Montalcino. The internationally acclaimed 2016 vintage is considered one of the greatest Brunello vintages ever and is known for its perfect balance of power, elegance, and freshness.
The impressive 5-liter bottle ensures an exceptionally slow and harmonious aging process. As a result, the wine develops even more finesse, complexity, and depth than it would in a standard bottle. This extremely rare large-format bottle is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts of iconic Italian wines.
The nose opens with intense aromas of ripe cherries, wild berries, violets, tobacco, leather, cedar, balsamic, spices, and subtle earthy notes. On the palate, the wine displays impressive structure, silky-smooth tannins, lively acidity, and an exceptionally long, mineral finish that will continue to develop for years to come.
A 5-liter bottle ages considerably more slowly than a standard bottle. As a result, the wine retains its freshness longer and develops additional complexity and elegance. This size is extremely rare and is among the most sought-after large-format bottles among collectors.
Serve at 17–18°C and decant the wine at least three hours in advance. Excellent with Florentine bistecca, game dishes, lamb, truffle dishes, slow-cooked beef, and aged hard cheeses.
Pian delle Vigne owes its name to the historic railroad station on the estate near Montalcino. The estate has been owned by the Antinori family since 1995. Here, Sangiovese takes center stage—the grape used to make Brunello di Montalcino. The 2016 vintage is known as a strong year in Montalcino, offering a beautiful balance of ripeness and freshness. The five-liter bottle is an exceptionally large size, intended for a special occasion. Whoever opens this Brunello later is not only pouring wine, but also a piece of Tuscan history.
