With *The Chestnut*, Taylor Fladgate continues its Historical Collection. This second release draws inspiration from a historic bottle shape and demonstrates how the presentation of wine has changed significantly over the centuries. The unique shape gives the bottle collector’s value, without overshadowing the wine itself.
Following *The Onion*, Taylor Fladgate turned its attention to another historic bottle shape for its second release. *The Chestnut* reflects the evolution of glassware and wine presentation over the centuries. As a result, the collection is not only interesting to drink, but also offers a glimpse into the evolution of Port bottles.
The bottled Reserve Tawny has developed its character in oak. This results in a smoother style in which dried fruit, nuts, caramel, and warm spices take center stage. Unlike Vintage Port, this wine is meant to be enjoyed immediately after purchase, without having to wait for years.
Following the “Onion” bottle series, this second edition focuses on another historic shape. In this way, the series demonstrates that the history of Port lies not only in the vineyards and cellars, but also in the vessels used to store and serve the wine. The shape is a tribute to that tradition, not an indication of the Port’s age.
Serve it slightly chilled and take the time to appreciate the interplay of flavor and presentation. When paired with crème brûlée, nut-based pastries, or a slice of aged cheese, its nutty notes really come to the fore.
