Taylor Fladgate Victory Port: 80 Years of Aging and Memories
Victory Port is an exceptional release from Taylor’s, the historic port house in the Douro. This 80-Year-Old Tawny Port was released to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in 1945. The name refers to a special moment in history; the wine itself tells a story of patience and long-term barrel aging.
The story behind this limited edition
According to Taylor’s, Victory Port is composed of very old reserves that have aged for many decades in oak barrels in Porto. The winemakers selected various components and combined them into a single blend. Unlike a Vintage Port from a single harvest year, an old tawny is all about the careful balance of aging, complexity, and harmony.
This release is linked to the memory of 1945, the year the war in Europe came to an end. This historical significance gives the bottle a meaning that goes beyond its age alone.
Tasting Experience
With a tawny of this age, you can expect a complex character, shaped by its long aging in wood. Aromas of dried fruit, nuts, and warm spices may play a role in this. What makes it special isn’t just the intensity, but above all the interplay between maturity, freshness, and a long finish.
Pour small amounts into a port glass and give the wine time to open up. That way, every nuance gets the attention it deserves.
Presentation and Storage
The dark bottle with a gold-colored cap comes in a wooden presentation box. This is part of the limited edition, making the port appealing to collectors as well. Store the bottle upright, in a cool, dark place, and protect the box from moisture and sunlight.
