Tinta Roriz

Tinta Roriz is one of Portugal's most important blue grape varieties and plays an essential role in both powerful red wines and iconic port wines from the Douro Valley. This grape is known for its structure, ripe fruit and excellent storage potential.

Although Tinta Roriz is genetically identical to the Spanish Tempranillo, it develops a character of its own in Portugal. In the Douro region, the warm climate and poor schist soils create concentrated wines with deep aromas of ripe cherries, plums, spice and a subtle earthy touch.

Within port wines, Tinta Roriz is often used in blends with grapes such as Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, where it contributes structure and complexity. In dry red wines, it gives body, elegance and a nice balance between fruit and tannins.

Thanks to its versatility, Tinta Roriz is a fixture in quality wines from Portugal, both for immediate consumption and long-term aging.
