The 2020 Quintessa Red is the flagship wine of Quintessa, one of the most respected wineries in Rutherford, Napa Valley. The estate is known for its biodynamic approach and produces only one red wine each year that reflects the estate’s unique terroir. Despite the challenging conditions, the 2020 vintage displays impressive precision, elegance, and depth.
The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Carménère. After aging in French oak barrels, the result is a harmonious wine with great concentration, refined tannins, and an exceptionally long finish. Quintessa has been among the very best in Napa Valley for many years.
The wine opens with aromas of cassis, black cherries, plums, violets, graphite, cedar, dark chocolate, tobacco, and subtle spices. On the palate, it is powerful and elegant, with velvety-soft tannins, lively acidity, and a long, mineral finish.
Serve at 16–18°C and decant the wine about one and a half to two hours in advance. Delicious with grilled beef, lamb, game, veal, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses.
The 2020 Quintessa Red has an aging potential of twenty to thirty-five years.
