2019 Las Pizarras Viña Alarba Garnacha from Calatayud
A refined Garnacha made from old vines
The 2019 Las Pizarras Viña Alarba Garnacha is one of the most prestigious wines from Calatayud. The grapes come from very old Garnacha vines growing on distinctive slate soils, known locally as “Las Pizarras.” This unique soil gives the wine a pronounced minerality, refinement, and exceptional depth.
The exceptional 2019 vintage produced perfectly ripe grapes with an impressive balance of ripe fruit, freshness, and structure. After aging in French oak barrels, the wine develops an elegant complexity, silky-smooth tannins, and a long, mineral finish. It ranks among the finest modern expressions of Garnacha in Spain.
Aroma & taste
The wine opens with aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, raspberries, violets, Mediterranean herbs, graphite, cocoa, and subtle spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied and elegant, with velvety tannins, lively acidity, and an exceptionally long, mineral finish.
Serving & foodpairing
Serve at 16–18°C and decant the wine about one hour in advance. Delicious with grilled lamb, beef, Iberian pork, game, mushrooms, and aged hard cheeses.

The story behind the bottle
