The 2004 La Rioja Alta Gran Reserva 890 ranks among the very best in the Spanish wine world. This iconic Gran Reserva is produced exclusively in exceptional vintages and is considered the flagship wine of La Rioja Alta S.A. The 2004 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest Rioja vintages of the past decades and produced wines with exceptional concentration, elegance, and aging potential.
The wine ages for several years in carefully selected American oak barrels and then undergoes extended aging in the bottle. This results in an exceptionally complex Rioja in which ripe red fruit, balsamic notes, vanilla, cedar, and refined spices come together harmoniously. Despite its age, the wine still possesses impressive freshness and structure.
The wine opens with aromas of ripe cherries, red berries, plums, tobacco, leather, cedar, vanilla, coconut, balsamic vinegar, and subtle spices. On the palate, it is silky smooth and elegant, with perfectly integrated tannins, lively acidity, and an exceptionally long, refined finish.
Serve at 16–18°C and decant the wine about one hour in advance. Delicious with lamb, beef, game, Iberian pork, mushrooms, stews, and aged cheeses.
