The 2016 Château Saint-Pierre ranks among the very best of Saint-Julien. As a Quatrième Grand Cru Classé in the famous 1855 classification, this historic château combines power, elegance, and precision in a style characteristic of the appellation’s finest wines. The exceptional 2016 vintage produced a wine with impressive concentration, silky-smooth tannins, and tremendous aging potential.
The blend is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Thanks to ideal weather conditions, the grapes reached perfect ripeness while retaining their freshness and elegance. The result is a Saint-Julien with a refined structure, deep complexity, and an exceptionally long finish.
The wine opens with aromas of cassis, black currants, plums, violets, graphite, cedarwood, tobacco, dark chocolate, and subtle spices. On the palate, it is powerful and harmonious, with ripe tannins, lively acidity, and a long, mineral finish.
Serve at 16–18°C and decant the wine about two hours in advance. Delicious with entrecôte, lamb, roe deer, venison, duck, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses.
The 2016 Château Saint-Pierre has excellent aging potential of thirty years or more and will continue to develop for many years to come.
