2004 Salon Cuvée S Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs Brut
Rare 1.5-liter Magnum in its original wooden case
The 2004 Salon Cuvée S Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs Brut is among the most prestigious and sought-after Blanc de Blancs Champagnes. Salon produces only vintage Champagne—and only in years that the house deems exceptional enough. This cuvée is made entirely from Chardonnay grapes grown in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs.
This version is offered as a 1.5-liter magnum in its original wooden case. The large bottle size is particularly well-suited for long-term aging, as Champagne generally matures more slowly and evenly in a magnum. Combined with the original packaging, this makes the bottle appealing to both enthusiasts and collectors.
The 2004 vintage combines maturity with the tension and minerality characteristic of Salon. After more than twenty years of aging, this Champagne is in a particularly interesting phase, and well-preserved bottles may still have a long future ahead of them.
Aroma & taste
A complex and refined Champagne with notes of citrus, candied lemon, white fruit, chalk, and floral nuances. As it continues to age in the bottle, notes of brioche, toasted nuts, delicate spices, and dried fruit emerge. The palate is precise and concentrated, with lively acidity, a pronounced mineral structure, and an exceptionally long finish.
Serving & foodpairing
Serve at around 10–12°C in large Champagne or white wine glasses. Excellent with oysters, caviar, lobster, scallops, turbot, fine shellfish, and other gourmet seafood dishes. This Champagne is also excellent on its own.
Storage potential
Salon is known for its exceptional potential for bottle aging. The 1.5-liter magnum bottle provides ideal conditions for slow development. If stored properly, the 2004 vintage can continue to evolve for many more years.
Drinking Window
Now – circa 2040+. The exact development depends on storage conditions and personal preference for young or more mature Champagne.
Why We Chose This Wine
Salon is one of the most exclusive names in Champagne. The combination of the 2004 vintage, the Magnum bottle, and the original wooden case makes this an exceptional bottle in our selection. A Champagne for the seasoned connoisseur, but also an interesting collector’s item.
The story behind the bottle
Salon was born from the idea of producing a single, exceptional Champagne made from a single grape variety, a single terroir, and a single vintage. Chardonnay from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger forms the basis. Furthermore, Salon does not release a vintage every year. Only select vintages are deemed good enough to be released as Salon. This uncompromising approach has made Salon one of the most prestigious and recognizable Blanc de Blancs Champagnes.
