The 1987 Niepoort Garrafeira Port is a special and rare expression of this traditional port style. Through the combination of aging in wooden barrels and prolonged storage in glass demijohns, this wine develops a unique finesse and complexity.
In the glass, this port shows an evolved ruby color with amber reflections. The nose is refined and complex with aromas of dried fruit, orange peel, nuts and subtle herbal notes. On the palate elegant and lively, with fresh acidity and a long, delicate finish.
Serve lightly chilled at 14-16°C. Ideal with delicate desserts, soft cheeses or as an exclusive finale to a dinner party.
Garrafeira is a unique aging method used almost exclusively by Niepoort. The combination of wood and glass aging creates a style distinct from both tawny and vintage port. The 1987 is a wonderful example of this tradition and a valuable collector's item.
