Brutus: The Young Power of the Wave Series
With five years of barrel aging, Brutus is the youngest member of the Wave August 17th series in our lineup. The age provides an initial indication of the time the single malt spent in wooden barrels, but it doesn’t tell the whole story: the barrels and the distillation style are just as crucial to its character.
The Story of Aging
For a single malt with a five-year age statement, the youngest whiskey in the bottling has been aged in wooden barrels for at least five years. During that period, the distillate can absorb aromas from the wood and gradually change. Which notes dominate depends heavily on the type of cask used; so age alone doesn’t tell the whole story.
Origin and Character
Vanilla, fruit, spices, and toasted wood make up the aromatic profile. The whiskey can still reveal a lively, direct character, with a clear interplay between the distillate and the cask. An age statement is not a measure of quality; even a younger whiskey can surprise with its balance and distinct character.
Taste and Enjoy
Pour a small amount into a tulip-shaped glass and let the aroma unfold slowly. A few drops of water can alter the profile, but are not required. Store the bottle upright and away from direct sunlight. For an interesting comparison, the seven-year-old Julius is a logical next step within the same series.
