This magnum of Château Lafite Rothschild 2018 combines a renowned name from Pauillac with an exceptionally warm vintage. The estate is classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé and is known for a style that blends concentration and precision.
The history of Château Lafite Rothschild dates back centuries. In the 1855 classification, the estate was awarded the highest ranking as a Premier Grand Cru Classé. Baron James de Rothschild acquired the château in 1868, after which the Rothschild name became permanently associated with Lafite. The year 2018 began wet in Bordeaux, with significant pressure from fungal diseases in the vineyard. This was followed by a warm, dry summer that allowed the successful vintages to achieve great ripeness. The gravelly soils of Pauillac and the significant proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon contribute to Lafite’s structure. This magnum holds 1.5 liters, twice the volume of a standard bottle. When stored properly, the larger size can support a more gradual evolution. This makes the wine appealing to those who wish to share it with fellow enthusiasts at a later date. Over the years, fruit notes may give way to cedar, tobacco, and other complex nuances.
Expect blackcurrant, black cherries, blackberries, graphite, and subtle cedar. The flavor is rich yet refined, with firm tannins, crisp vibrancy, and a long finish.
