The 2003 Barros Vintage Port comes from an exceptionally warm and concentrated vintage in the Douro. This wine combines intense fruit concentration with structure and elegance, resulting in an impressive vintage port with great aging potential.
The 2003 vintage is known throughout much of Europe for its exceptionally hot summer. With Vintage Port, however, it’s not just about concentration: freshness and balance are just as important for the wine’s continued development. When opening an older bottle, it’s best to be mindful of sediment and give the wine plenty of time to reveal itself in the glass.
2003 is one of the widely declared Vintage Port vintages. In this vintage year, numerous port houses chose to release their best wines as Vintage Port. This widespread declaration underscores the exceptional reputation of the harvest in the Douro, while each producer maintains its own style and selection.
In the glass, this port shows a deep, almost opaque ruby color. The nose is intense and rich with aromas of blackcurrants, plums, cocoa, figs and subtle spices. On the palate, it is powerful and full-bodied, with firm tannins, ripe fruit and an exceptionally long finish.
Serve at 16-18°C. Ideal with chocolate desserts, blue cheese or as an exclusive finale to a dinner party.
The year 2003 is considered one of the most powerful and concentrated vintage years of the modern Douro. With this wine, Barros created an intense and impressive vintage port that is already evolving beautifully today but can also continue to age.
