Quinta do Noval is one of the Douro’s best-known estates and is known for its distinctive combination of fruit intensity, structure, and freshness. The 2015 Vintage Port gives that style its own unique character. After several years in the bottle, its youthful character gradually gives way to more refined nuances.
Quinta do Noval released a standard Vintage for the 2015 harvest, but no separate Nacional. The estate evaluates both selections independently: the quality of a standard Vintage does not automatically mean that a Nacional will also be declared.
2015 was not widely recognized as a Vintage Port year, although several producers released their own selections. The Quinta do Noval 2015 therefore deserves attention as an individual expression of the harvest, distinct from the better-known vintages that surround it.
A vintage declaration is always a decision made by the producer. The grapes and the various lots are selected based on quality and style. This makes it fascinating to compare Quinta do Noval’s vintages side by side and experience the differences between the years, without losing sight of the estate’s unique character.
The aroma may reveal notes of blackberries, ripe plums, and subtle spices. The concentrated fruit core is supported by tannins and crisp acidity. As the wine continues to age, notes of cocoa, dried fruit, and softer spices may also emerge.
The finish can reveal both power and elegance. The precise aromatic profile depends on how the wine has been stored and the time that has passed since it was opened. By observing the wine over time, its various layers often become more apparent.
Serve at around 16–18 °C. If sediment is expected, stand the bottle upright beforehand and decant carefully. Store unopened bottles on their sides in a cool, dark place with a stable temperature.
