2nd Cru Classé (1855)
The 2nd Cru Classé is the second tier in the historic 1855 Bordeaux classification. The classification was created for the World’s Fair in Paris and ranked prominent châteaux based on their reputation and market prices at the time.
This category includes, among others, Château Cos d’Estournel, Château Pichon Baron, and Château Léoville Las Cases.
The classification reflects the château’s historical standing, but does not constitute a quality assessment of each individual vintage. Furthermore, each château has its own terroir and wine style.
The classification applies to the classified grand vin, not automatically to any second wines.
