Taylor Fladgate is a historic port house with a long tradition in the Douro Valley. Vintage Port is made from grapes from a single vintage and bottled after a relatively short period of aging in oak. Further aging takes place primarily in the bottle. As a result, the wine can develop a more complex character over many years, with variations between vintages.<\/p>\n
This Imperial contains six liters of Vintage Port from the warm 2017 harvest. The exceptionally dry and warm conditions of 2017 resulted in a small harvest of concentrated grapes in the Douro.<\/p>\n
Dark berries, plums, cocoa, floral notes, and subtle spices can define the bouquet. As the wine continues to age in the bottle, notes of dried fruit, spices, and chocolate may become more pronounced. The tannins may gradually become softer on the palate. Not every bottle develops in exactly the same way: temperature, storage history, and the condition of the cork all influence the result. A tasting note is therefore only a guideline.<\/p>\n
Store the bottle in a dark, cool place at as stable a temperature as possible. Leave an older Vintage Port standing upright long enough for the sediment to settle to the bottom. Open carefully; an older cork may be fragile. Decant if necessary to separate the sediment, and serve slightly chilled. Pair with blue cheese, dark chocolate, or nuts. The port can also be tasted on its own, allowing the aromas to fully shine.<\/p>\n
